Day Hike in the Mountains
December 30th, 2005Up early and off with Rob, Amberly and Fellette to mountains north of Atlanta for a day hike in a gorge called Tullalah, in the North Georgian Mountains. We underwent a 10-minute spiel by a ranger using words, like treacherous, hypothermia, not recommended steep, slippery, rescued survivor’s etc. Led by fearless and enthusiastic Robin, we started the trek. 750 steps and about an hour later we found our first and last un-overcomeable obstacle, the river. All four of us were astride rocks the size of wheelbarrows or larger trying to get to the other side without slipping off into the chilly waters. Rob ventured a different route trying to get find a way we could all get over safely. Amberly slipped because of the weight of the pack, one foot dunked. We decided discretion was the better part of valor and fortunately all made it back to the bank without incident. Up the 750 stairs, with some pauses. Picnic lunch, some exploring and back home. 75 photos taken, 70 by Rob.
Nana Moe arrived around 6 from Vancouver, picked up by Rob and the girls, lots of chatter at dinner. Watched the Last Samurai. To bed, with tired legs.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Candy and her family as she starts her treatments today, [December 31].
