The Blog...
We both feel very blessed to be able to come on a vacation such as we are on. Sure, we worked hard, but many people worked a lot harder and have little or nothing to show for all those tough days. Either bad luck, wrong decisions, mother nature or other factors worked against them. As I say, every day Thank you Lord! When I sit down to put my thoughts on the computer for posting on the Blog, I write how I feel. As you may have noticed if you follow the blog, my feelings go up and down. Yes, good and sometimes not so good times happen even on this floating palace called Prinsendam. I am aware that some of my writings are more a reflection of my mood than possibly they should be. Every day is great, but some are better than others. I put down the great and the not so great, after all you wouldn't want me to sugar-coat it would you?
A cruise such as this is not just a long two week cruise that goes on for 14 weeks. It becomes your life. Also on a cruise like this there is a lot of older people. FACT! We are in that old age category ourselves. There is cliché that states, 'the longer the cruise the older the passenger', and this is a long, long cruise. As most of us know, older people are often fixed in their ways and can become a little grumpy at times. Do you not agree with me? I also am getting older but I try not to become like many people that we meet on board, or for that matter grumpy people we meet at home. We have met some wonderful people here with similar likes to us, they are either younger or younger-at-heart. During other travels we have made some wonderul friends that are older than us. Many of them are inspirations to me.
It is inevitable however, that we meet some people, the likes of which we would not meet at home. Most if not every waking moment we are with people that are over 65 or 70 years of age. At home we see our kids almost every day, our grandchildren 2, 3, 4 times a week, and the staff at work has an average age half of mine. We are in a young person's world at home. Not so here.
It has taken me almost two months to adjust to these wonderful but different conditions. I apologise if I am critical or have a note of cynicism in my text. We are having an absolutely marvellous time.
You may have noticed pictures of small children, that is a clue about a missing part of our everyday life.
Love to all of you, wish you were here. [It would lower the average age.]
DOUG
