Cabin 54...

I take a bit of pride in having amongst the most interesting cabins, on deck 10 at least! [Fellette tolerates me on this!]

When packing, last December! we took a few 4 x 6 photos of family and friends to have with us so we were never too far from home, visually. As we progressed on the trip we expanded the photos of old and new friends and significant adventures, plus I went into the computer and pulled up photos that took my fancy.

We also have photos of my parents and even photos of Fellette and I before we were married. The kids are here as well, both our kids the grandkids and of course all of our family and in-laws, close friends and the staff at work.

On a few ports in the last three months, I have taken my Christmas gift from nephew Robin ashore. It is a Flash Memory Stick thing that I wear around my neck, uploaded with photos taken in the previous few weeks. My last lot was 20 photos I had developed in Alexandria, Egypt. Great service, great price on Kodak paper. All done in a little street stall serviced by smiling Egyptians, in 20 minutes. It is a wonderful world folks! When I went back in to claim my photos, I had my claim slip out, but the soft spoken Egyptian gentleman behind the counter said with a smile "I remember you, no need for a slip"]. Tourism and free enterprise are probably our best chances for peace in this crazy world.

We recently had an officer from the pursers office in our cabin for some technical reason. The woman was enthralled by all the memorabilia and photos we have in our cabin. I spent some considerable time showing her our family and friends and explaining the photos. It took a little explaining when it came to the cabin at 100 Mile in the winter with the outhouse covered in snow. All the good things in our life are in this small room with us. When we visit other cabins that look like they did when we came on board my heart stops....for about 10 seconds, I wonder, then I know, give me our busy cabin anytime! We will be offering tours of cabin 054 before we reach Fort Lauderdale.

Currently we have one penguin, two giraffes, a camel, a tortoise, two elephants (one stone, one wood), and a beaded fish. [Other animals are tucked away awaiting shipment home.] Carvings from Kenya, the Amazon and South Africa. There are also several small flags from our favourite countries, borrowed from the dining room.

Fellette says the dressing table mirror is now full. There is a small area about 2' x 2' for use as a mirror, the rest is filled with photos of family, friends and post cards from visited ports. 51 in total.

We have another mirror with 26 photos of friends, new and old.

The area behind the sofa is filling up rapidly, a map of the world bought on the street in Bombay with our course traced on it with a meagre seven photos on it.

I am working on those blank spaces.
