Day 106 of 105...
It was a long day, starting with our coffee at 5.45 by our good looking and very pleasant Indonesian steward.
I have never seen such an organised disembarkement in my life. At 11.45 we were sitting in our cabin awaiting word that the ship was cleared by US officials. The word came. Off to customs, US one line, Canadians the other. A welcome smile and a rubber stamp in our passport. Next the dreaded luggage situation. Into a hall the size of a half football field and there were about 5000 [?] pieces of luggage all looking like ours!
They were laid out however by colour and number, that was one of the reasons it took almost three hours before we could start getting off. Next we had our luggage taken [6 pieces] by porter to drop off: three to be shipped by land, signed the papers and got a receipt.Next to our ride to the airport. The lovely ladies from Holland America check our name and presto we are off in a 30' long white Cadillac limo for the 12 minute ride to the airport. [If you pay too much for a mini-suite they give you a limo.]
We are dropped off at the curbside check-in, Air Canada. Presto. Through security where the only thing people seem to be wearing as they walk through the metal detector are socks, pants and a shirt. Everything else is in a tray being X-rayed. It took 8 minutes to get dressed again and then off to the boarding gate where we had a 3/4 hour wait.
Total elapsed time from Cabin 54 on the ship to doing a crossword waiting to board the plane, 48 minutes! Wow.
The ride to Toronto was made delightful by sweet Canadian flight attendants that pampered us. Canada Customs in Toronto was not unpleasant. We spent 2 1/2 hours in the lounge before boarding. There I started to run down the batteries on my cell phone and went onto a high speed Internet connection for the first time in three and a half months. That's fast!
A smooth ride home where I took one of the best pictures since leaving home....Jeanette and Craig met us at the Airport.
Today I will start therapy and try to overcome my "Blog Addiction." Right after I see our Grandkids and insure our cars, and get groceries and sort the mail and do our taxes and...........Thank you Lord, for everything.
